Kerrie Summerfield, Proud to be a part of the OAG

In the realm of public service, Kerrie Summerfield shines brightly with her unwavering dedication to the state of Texas. With an impressive career spanning three decades across various state agencies, Kerrie is currently with the Budget Division at the Office of the Attorney General (OAG).

Kerrie_1Kerrie's journey in state service began at the Texas Parks and Wildlife (TPWD) agency, where she honed her skills and passion for public service. She later contributed to the State Office of Risk Management (SORM) and the Texas Department of Insurance (TDI), which laid the foundation for her current leadership role.

Kerrie is proud to be a part of the OAG, where dedicated teams work tirelessly to prosecute criminal activities, ranging from Medicaid fraud to human trafficking and internet crimes against children. She finds great satisfaction in knowing that the department also plays a crucial role in serving the children of Texas through Child Support enforcement, making them one of the top performing states in this category.

Kerrie recognizes the OAG's commitment to serving Texans and advocating for justice and the most vulnerable members of society.  And behind that service are State employees like herself implementing the commitment to Texans. Her active role as a Board Member and Treasurer at TPEA not only enhances her career but also allows her to support state employees through advocacy efforts. Her decision to join TPEA was influenced by their impactful advocacy work and informative newsletters that highlight state benefits and pay raises.

When discussing her TPEA membership, Kerrie emphasizes the valuable financial benefits and essential representation that TPEA offers, particularly during legislative sessions. Thanks to TPEA's advocacy efforts, she was able to maintain her benefits and secure a significant salary increase of over 10%, which not only impacts her current situation but also safeguards her future retirement annuity.

One impressive aspect of volunteering with TPEA is the pivotal role they played in securing double raises for state employees. TPEA stood out as the sole organization to attend over 50 State Legislative Hearings, providing crucial data on state employees who had gone without raises for eight years. Their active presence greatly improved outcomes for state employees, including Kerrie, who benefited from targeted and across-the-board salary increases.  Kerrie_2
