TPEA Stronger Together

The Trust Edge With Doc Roome

Last week, we kicked off our continued learning program with a workshop all about trust and
leadership with Doc Roome here at the TPEA Austin. The workshop was called The Trust Edge and in addition to being a TCEQ employee and TPEA member, Doc is also a Trust Edge Certified Coach. (Keep your eyes out for a future blog post all about Doc and his amazing career!)

The premise of The Trust Edge is pretty simple; trust is essential for teams to work effectively. Leaders need to trust their team, and the team needs to trust their leaders. Our work lives are constantly changing; coworkers come and go, technology changes, and job duties evolve. Without a strong foundation of trust, employees and leaders can feel disconnected and uncertain.

We hosted a mix of current and retired state employees at our office, and what great group we had! Doc even prepared some questions/discussions to happen during lunch, which helped keep everyone engaged. Some of the most memorable takeaways from the workshop were:

  • The 8 Pillars of Trust

  • Only 13% of people completely trust their employer/leader.

  • Asking questions goes a long way in building trust.

  • Trust a person's actions, not just their words.

We're so thankful to Doc for sharing this incredible workshop with us, and to all that attended. We have a lot more programs and webinars and workshops in the works, and we cant' wait to see you in person and online for more professional and personal development.

TPEA members get a BIG discount on all professional development courses, so now is the perfect time to join to take advantage of those discounts for the courses that interest you. We can even send a PO to your agency if they would like to pay. If you have any questions, please reach out to info@tpea.org and we'll be happy to help.
