TPEA Stronger Together

Texas Flood: Resources and Support

Written by Texas Public Employees Association | Jul 9, 2025 10:09:06 PM

For many Texans, this past Fourth of July was not marked by fireworks and family barbecues—but by rising waters, power outages, and loss. Severe storms across the state led to widespread flooding that disrupted communities, damaged homes and businesses, and forced families to evacuate in the middle of what should have been a day of celebration.

Among those impacted are the very people who keep Texas running: our state employees.

Across agencies and regions, state employees once again demonstrated their deep commitment to Texas, even in the face of personal loss. Many employees with the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), the Department of Public Safety, Health and Human Services, and countless others were called into action while their own homes were at risk or already under water. From search and rescue, managing shelters and clearing debris, to restoring essential services and delivering aid, state employees have been on the front lines of response and recovery.

And yet, behind every uniform or badge is a human story—state employees who had to evacuate their families, who returned to flooded neighborhoods, who are now navigating paperwork while still showing up to serve others.

As an association, TPEA holds a deep commitment to standing by our members (both active state employees and retirees). We want to continue urging our legislature to prioritize the well-being of state employees in their plans.

We also want to recognize the extraordinary resilience shown by our members. You continue to show up for Texas, and we will continue to show up for you.

In the coming weeks, we ask members to share their human stories of resilience and support. In the meantime, we encourage all members to check in on your each other, ask how they’re doing, and offer a helping hand wherever you can.

No one goes through this alone. We are one public workforce—and in moments like these, our unity is our greatest strength.

With heartfelt compassion,

The TPEA Team

The Texas Tribune provided a good listing of resources to help or get help. The Governor's office also released a press release with resources.
